Rovaniemi is located in the northernmost part of Finland, within Finnish Lapland and the Arctic Circle. Rovaniemi is a relatively small town with short distances. In the city centre, everything is close to everything else and walking is the way to get around. The population is 62 000 citizens (2016), which is one third of the population of Finnish Lapland. In addition, approximately 500 000 tourists visit Rovaniemi each year.
August is usually the second warmest month in Finland. In 2024 temperatures in Rovaniemi during 6th to 10th of August were from 11 °C (52 °F) to 20 °C (60 °F).
